getting around part three and other stories

Today, Ken and I ventured to Taksim Square, which required tthe use of a cab, a ferry, a monorail, a funicular (underground incline railway) and then doing it all in reverse - report card - Great success.  As a matter of fact, we are getting good enough to be dangerous!  We were actually stopped by some newbie tourists and asked for directions - which we were were successfully able to provide!!! Yay.  We also ended up helping several (yes, I said several) folks purchase their jetons (tokens) for the various transports.

Taksim Square and the surrounding stores teem with people - the Square is at the top of a hill, the streets of shops intersect there - the streets themselves are inclined.  We actually stopped at a Starbucks (I have now counted at least 7 here) and got a delicious and cold raspberry current drink - it certainly hit the spot on a warm day.

I would say that today is the nicest weather day that we have had since we got here - it is warm, yes, but the humidity is way down and there is a lovely breeze coming off the Bosphorus/Marmara much earlier than normal - a really good day to be outside.  It is also a clear day - so the ferry ride over to Old Town was picture perfect and we took quite a bit of video - with the sun glinting off the water and all the domes of the famous sites gleeming brightly. The boys have the camera today - they are on their Doğa College Excursion Day - I am looking forward to their stories and photos.....
